Episode 024 – The importance of staying focused for photographers

The importance of staying focused for photographers

One of the reasons photographers struggle to get the success they want is that they’re too scatter-gun and not focused enough.

There are so many things photographers need to do that it can be hard. One minute you’re a photographer, then you’re a marketer, then you’re changing your pricing, then you need to do selling and buy samples. Ooh and then some smarts like me tells you that your branding isn’t clear so you need to do some deep internal thinking at a Yoga retreat! 😉

So, how do you stay focused as a photographer when there’s so much to do?

The first step is to know you have a focusing problem.

The second step is to actually accept it’s a problem and to want to do something about it.

The third step is simple – do one thing at a time. Easier said than done, but the chart below proves how much more efficient you are when you do one project at a time rather than simultaneously doing bits and pieces of multiple projects. If the chart doesn’t make sense then don’t worry, I explain it in the intro to this podcast episode.

Here’s what you’re going to discover in this episode.

  • My simple and free client database
  • Should your homepage be all focused on weddings, or families or a mix?
  • Should you be a specialist or a generalist photographer?
  • A template for writing about your wedding photography services (it would also work for other genres of photography)
  • A neat trick for seeing how good your website copy is
  • The importance of being focused and not getting distracted by trying to do everything at once.
  • The importance of captioning photographs throughout your website

  • The clever way of knowing the most effective photographs to put in your portfolio and on your homepage
